Gilded Signs

Gold Leaf Gilding

Gilding goes hand in hand with signwriting and is a decorative technique for applying a very fine coating of gold to solid surfaces such as metal, wood, porcelain and stone.

Gilding gives an object a gold appearance at a fraction of the cost of creating a solid gold object. In addition a solid item made of gold would often be too soft or too heavy for practical use. Another benefit is gilt surfaces do not tarnish.

The most common items we gild are statues but we also do a lot of internal gilding in churches, cathedrals and distilleries. Gilding can be applied to a wide range of items, for further advice please give us a call or drop us an email and we will be pleased to help.
